Creed Aventus is one of those fragrances that doesn't really need help.
The pineapple, bergamot and blackcurrant opening already gives it a bright fruity character, while birch and patchouli bring the familiar smoky edge before musk, oakmoss, ambergris and vanilla take over in the dry-down.
But after spending time experimenting with Aventus as a layering base, I discovered something interesting: the right second fragrance doesn't necessarily make Aventus smell stronger—it can make it smell different.
Some combinations make it greener. Some make it sweeter. Others push its woods forward or give the famous pineapple-and-birch DNA a much cleaner, more modern feel.
I narrowed my experiments down to five fragrances:
- Molecule 01 by Escentric Molecules
- Baccarat Rouge 540 by Maison Francis Kurkdjian
- Green Irish Tweed by Creed
- Elysium by Roja Parfums
- Super Cedar by Byredo
And the results were surprisingly different.
1. Creed Aventus + Molecule 01

The combination
This was the first combination I wanted to try because Molecule 01 is almost the opposite of Aventus.
Aventus has a recognizable personality. Molecule 01 is deliberately minimalist, built around Iso E Super and its soft woody-amber effect.
I sprayed Aventus first and gave it a little time to settle before adding Molecule 01.
The immediate impression wasn't "Aventus plus another perfume."
Instead, Aventus seemed to become rounder and more transparent.
The pineapple remained recognizable, but the smoky birch felt less angular. The woody dry-down seemed warmer, smoother and somehow closer to the skin while still creating occasional wafts around me.
That reaction isn't unique to my experiment. A long-running fragrance discussion specifically mentions Aventus and Molecule 01 as a successful combination, while another fragrance forum user described the pairing as working particularly well.
Even more interestingly, a Basenotes reviewer who tried Molecule 01 with Aventus said the combination "worked wonders," despite finding Molecule 01 itself somewhat unpredictable on skin.
What I noticed
The biggest change was the dry-down.
Aventus became less about the individual pineapple/smoke contrast and more about a smooth woody aura.
This is probably the combination I'd choose when I want Aventus to remain unmistakably Aventus but feel slightly more polished.
Aventus + Molecule 01 = smoother, warmer, more understated Aventus.
Try approximately 2 sprays of Aventus + 1 spray of Molecule 01 initially. Molecule 01 is one of those fragrances where more isn't necessarily better.
2. Creed Aventus + Baccarat Rouge 540

This was the most dramatic experiment.
Aventus provides fruit, smoke and woods.
Baccarat Rouge 540 brings an entirely different effect—airy sweetness, saffron-like facets, amberwood and that unmistakable luminous quality.
I expected the two fragrances to compete.
They didn't.
Instead, the Baccarat Rouge 540 seemed to pull Aventus toward its sweeter side.
The pineapple became almost syrupy without becoming a straightforward gourmand, while the smoky character remained underneath. The result was considerably richer than Aventus by itself.
And this combination isn't merely an internet theory.
A Basenotes Creed layering discussion contains a user describing an Aventus + Baccarat Rouge 540 combination and recounting an unsolicited compliment while wearing the two together. Another participant in the same discussion specifically described the blend as interesting enough to discuss in detail.
There is also a Reddit fragrance discussion in which a user reports receiving several compliments after combining Aventus with another fresh fragrance, illustrating how enthusiasts experiment with Aventus as a layering base.
More recently, a fragrance YouTube channel published a dedicated video testing Baccarat Rouge 540 with Creed Aventus, showing that the combination continues to attract interest among layering enthusiasts.
What surprised me
The biggest surprise was how quickly the combination could become too much.
Both fragrances have substantial presence, and Baccarat Rouge 540 can become very noticeable in enclosed spaces. Community discussions also contain warnings about overdoing strong combinations.
So I would not treat this like a normal two-spray-each experiment.
One spray of Aventus and one light spray of Baccarat Rouge 540 is plenty for the first test.
Aventus + Baccarat Rouge 540 = fruity, smoky, sweet and highly radiant.
This is the combination I'd reserve for evenings, parties and situations where I actually want the fragrance to announce itself.
3. Creed Aventus + Green Irish Tweed

This combination initially sounds strange.
Why put another Creed fragrance over Aventus?
Because the two fragrances move in completely different directions.
Aventus is fruity, smoky and woody.
Green Irish Tweed is green, fresh, aromatic and clean.
The result is fascinating.
The green character seems to cut through Aventus's sweetness, making the pineapple feel less juicy and more freshly sliced and green.
The smoky birch also becomes less prominent.
Instead, the combination develops a very clean, outdoorsy quality.
This makes sense when looking at the way fragrance enthusiasts talk about Green Irish Tweed itself. In a recent Reddit discussion about Creed fragrances, multiple users singled out Green Irish Tweed for its refreshing, year-round character. One described it simply as "so refreshing."
Another Reddit discussion among Creed owners also repeatedly places Aventus and Green Irish Tweed among their favorite Creed fragrances.
And an older sample review described Green Irish Tweed as particularly green and earthy, with violet leaf standing out prominently.
My experience
This was perhaps the easiest combination to wear during the daytime.
Aventus remained recognizable, but Green Irish Tweed effectively removed some of the heaviness.
The result smelled like Aventus after a walk through a freshly cut green landscape.
It doesn't create the same dramatic transformation as Baccarat Rouge 540. Instead, it makes Aventus feel cleaner and fresher.
Aventus + Green Irish Tweed = fresh, green, elegant and unmistakably Creed.
I'd start with 2 sprays of Aventus + 1 spray of Green Irish Tweed.
4. Creed Aventus + Roja Elysium

This may be the most interesting pairing of the five because Aventus and Elysium already occupy some overlapping territory.
Both have bright citrus/fruity facets.
Both have a polished masculine character.
Both eventually move toward woods, musk and an airy modern dry-down.
So instead of creating a dramatic contrast, Elysium seems to polish the brighter side of Aventus.
There is surprisingly strong community evidence for this particular combination.
"Aventus with Elysium is a rock solid combination."
Another Reddit discussion lists Elysium, Baccarat Rouge 540 and Aventus as fragrances that "play nicely" together.
The similarity between the two fragrances is also frequently discussed independently. Fragrantica users have described Elysium as having a bright fruity/woody character that can remind them of Aventus, while other reviewers emphasize that the two fragrances remain distinct despite occupying similar territory.
What happened on skin
This combination didn't make Aventus dramatically sweeter or darker.
It made it brighter.
The citrus character became more noticeable and the whole fragrance seemed to have more air around it.
The smoky side of Aventus also became less dominant.
That's precisely why I wouldn't recommend this combination to someone looking for a completely new fragrance. If your objective is maximum contrast, Baccarat Rouge 540 does that better.
But if you love the general Aventus style and want to make it feel brighter and more polished, Elysium is fascinating.
Aventus + Elysium = brighter, cleaner, more citrus-driven Aventus.
Try 2 sprays of Aventus followed by 1 spray of Elysium.
5. Creed Aventus + Byredo Super Cedar

This was the most unexpected combination.
Super Cedar is minimalist compared with Aventus. Instead of bringing another large personality into the mix, it emphasizes cedar and a clean woody character.
And that matters because Aventus already has birch and woody facets in its heart and base.
The combination therefore doesn't feel like two unrelated perfumes sitting on top of each other.
The cedar seems to sharpen the woody skeleton of Aventus.
A recent layering analysis of Aventus specifically identifies Super Cedar as a strong pairing, describing the combination as creating a cleaner, more architectural interpretation of Aventus while sharpening its smoky-birch character.
My impression
This is the combination I would choose when I don't want Aventus to smell particularly sweet.
The pineapple remains in the opening, but the fragrance quickly develops into something drier and more woody.
It feels more tailored.
More restrained.
Almost like Aventus wearing a perfectly cut cedar suit.
The rose aspect of Super Cedar is subtle enough that it doesn't turn the combination overtly floral.
Aventus + Super Cedar = dry, woody, modern Aventus.
This is particularly interesting for someone who already owns Aventus and wants to create a second interpretation without introducing a completely different fragrance identity.
Which Aventus Layer Should You Try?
After comparing the five combinations, I found that each one answers a different question.
Want Aventus to smell smoother?
Molecule 01
It enhances the woody-amber character without fighting Aventus.
Want something sweeter and more noticeable?
Baccarat Rouge 540
This produces the most dramatic transformation—but use fewer sprays.
Want something greener and fresher?
Green Irish Tweed
The two Creed fragrances complement each other's fresh/woody character surprisingly well.
Want a brighter citrus interpretation?
Elysium
It pushes Aventus toward its sparkling, fresh side.
Want something drier and woodier?
Super Cedar
This is the most understated and architectural combination of the five.
My Five Aventus Layering Experiments at a Glance
| Combination | Main Effect | Character |
|---|---|---|
| Aventus + Molecule 01 | Adds smooth woody warmth | Soft & sophisticated |
| Aventus + Baccarat Rouge 540 | Adds sweetness and radiance | Rich & attention-grabbing |
| Aventus + Green Irish Tweed | Adds green freshness | Clean & outdoorsy |
| Aventus + Elysium | Amplifies citrus/freshness | Bright & polished |
| Aventus + Super Cedar | Strengthens dry woods | Modern & understated |
The Most Important Lesson
Layering Aventus isn't really about making a strong fragrance even stronger.
It's about changing the balance of the fragrance.
Molecule 01 changes the texture.
Baccarat Rouge 540 changes the sweetness and radiance.
Green Irish Tweed changes the freshness.
Elysium changes the brightness.
Super Cedar changes the woods.
And that's why Aventus is such an interesting layering base: its recognizable pineapple-birch-wood structure is strong enough to remain identifiable, but flexible enough that another fragrance can push it in a completely different direction.
One final caution: these combinations are highly dependent on skin chemistry, batch, spray quantity and the particular version of each fragrance. Community experiences are therefore useful as experimentation guides, not guarantees.
The safest approach is to test one spray of each on skin first, rather than committing to a full two- or three-spray application.
If I were building an Aventus layering wardrobe, these five would cover five distinctly different versions of the Aventus experience: smoother, sweeter, greener, brighter and woodier.
